The department has diagnostic and teaching responsibilities. The diagnostic responsibility of the department caters to the patient needs from S.P.More hospital and other private hospitals located in and around Panvel by serving as a referral centre. It is well equipped for both undergraduate and Postgraduate training, comprising of histopathology, cytopathology, hematology, clinical pathology sections and Blood bank.
The department is involved in teaching basic Pathology for medical dental and paramedical students.
The faculty members regularly upgrade their knowledge by attending state and national conferences.
Department faculty are constantly encouraging students to take part in scientific studies and guide them to publish the same in various national and international scientific meet.
Pathology department is providing holistic patient care by indulging in regular clinicopathological meets in collaboration with other clinical departments.
Special investigations like immunohistochemistry , immunofluroscense, and frozen sections are also provided by the department. Department has a state-of-the-art, air conditioned diagnostic lab, situated in the hospital, which renders its services 24×7. Well equipped with automated machines, high quality diagnostic microscopes and sophisticated penta headed demonstration microscope.
Hematology section is equipped with latest hematology analyser and has facility for diagnosing various haematological diseases including facility for haemolytic workup, coagulation studies and bone marrow study.
Histopathology Lab has automated tissue processer, microtomes, higher end microscopes, aided by fluorescent, phase contrast and polarizing options. It has facility for frozen section with higher end cryostat machine.
Cytology department is providing both exfoliative and aspiration cytological dignosis with facility for image guided aspiration.
